DEATH BEFORE RETIREMENT
If you die before retirement at age 65 and do not have at least 2 years of service during each of which contributions were made to the Plan for 350 hours or more, no benefits are payable.
If you die before your actual retirement date, and you have at least 2 years of service (as defined above) at the time of your death, a lump sum death benefit is payable equal to the value of 100% of the pension you had accumulated to the time of your death.
If you were married or party to a common law relationship at the time of your death, the death benefit will be paid to your Spouse by means of a transfer to a "locked-in" RRSP, or in lieu or such a transfer, the surviving Spouse may elect to receive a deferred pension from the Plan.
If there is no surviving Spouse, the death benefit will be paid to your designated beneficiary, or, if you do not have a designated beneficiary, to your estate.
